Anne LaBate (Class of 2012)
President
Segal LaBate Commercial Real Estate

Anne LaBate Anne LaBate is President of Segal LaBate Commercial Real Estate, a firm with roots in Trenton, dating back to 1970. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University, and a Masters Degree from New York University.

A fascination early on with cities led to studies in city planning. After spending a number of years in the non-profit sector, Anne gravitated to the field of commercial real estate, and further studies in real estate development and investment, a central element in any city’s economy. Focused primarily in Mercer County and with much attention paid to her adopted hometown of Trenton, she has sought to balance her business activities with volunteer efforts in our region’s vital civic arena.

“Building connections between the varied elements of our community is like cross pollination - when wide-ranging organizations work together, we create an environment where each can bloom,” says Anne. She has found numerous opportunities to cross-pollinate.

Upon moving to Trenton in 1998, one of her first volunteer leadership roles was as a member of the board of the YWCA of Trenton. She continues to serve on the Board of YWCA’s Dunham Hall residence, an important resource for Trenton area women in transition.

Anne has been proud to roll up her sleeves on behalf of community arts organizations – Passage Theatre as it produces new plays; Artworks, as it offers “Art All Night” and quality art classes, the Arts & Business Council of Greater Trenton, as it collaborates to link business volunteers to local arts organizations – these are efforts that enrich the quality of life within our region, and a proven way to spur local economic development.

Similar roles with business and civic organizations - the Mercer Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Trenton Downtown Association, the Trenton Parking Authority, and the Princeton Area Community Foundation – provide valuable opportunities to share the perspective of one with the other.

Commercial real estate is a service business, one that is personally fulfilling to Anne, as she guides clients to sound property decisions and investments. Positioning that business within the fabric of our community, seeing the benefits to clients and neighbors alike is even more satisfying. Anne draws inspiration from the motto, dating from the 1800’s, of the National Association of Colored Women’s Clubs, that we must be “lifting as we climb.”
